KEEPING SAFE IN PRIMARY CARE
Throughout the pandemic we have strived to make the surgery as safe as possible for all our patients and staff. We will continue to do so going forward.
From the 19th of July nothing will change at the surgery - patients will need to still wear a mask, socially distance and use hand sanitiser in the surgery and staff will continue to wear PPE. We do understand that it can be frustrating, but we know that when people come to us they are sick and vulnerable (and some cannot receive the covid vaccinations due to medical reasons) so we feel it would be wrong to not take these small precautions that can protect people.
In terms of ‘opening up’, as many of you know, we have never been shut and in fact have consulted with much higher numbers of patients than we did pre-covid (face to face, by phone, by email, by video call). On top of this we have worked hard, along with our volunteers to get as many patients vaccinated as possible. We are still offering appointments for Covid vaccinations if you still need one.
The Harpenden and surrounding villages community has come so far in trying to minimise the impact of Covid and we are sure you understand that we need to keep the surgery as safe for ALL patients as we can.
We are continually monitoring the situation and will communicate to you any further changes as they happen.

Patient Notice - We are here for you
To the patients of the Harpenden Health Primary Care Network (The Elms Medical Practice, Davenport House Surgery and The Village Surgery),
We have remained open and here for you. We are continuing to provide services as we have been throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, but we are being asked to prioritise delivery of care and services based on clinical needs.
The way you access your GP is therefore a little different- it has changed to ensure you get the best and most appropriate care safely and quickly. To make this possible, we are triaging most appointment requests (you can request an appointment via our email, by phone or in person at reception). Triaging appointments allows us to assess the most appropriate way to provide your care depending on your clinical need, and ensure your care is provided by the most appropriate person in an appropriate timeframe. Your appointment may be by phone or video, or a face-to-face consultation.
Please be aware that when you do visit the surgery, you will be asked to wear a face mask (unless you are exempt) and comply with social distancing regulations. If the reception or waiting room area is busy, you may be asked to wait outside the surgery until it is safe for you to enter.
General practice, nationally, is under intense pressure- supporting patients, communities, hospitals and delivering vaccinations.
Our team are working extremely hard to provide services and care both at the practice and at the vaccination centre - we thank you for your ongoing support and appreciate your patience and respect.
Your general practice is here for you. Help us help you.
Thank you from your Harpenden Health PCN
We are working hard to meet the increased demand at present.
We are currently reviewing the provision of the Econsult service. This service will resume. Please use our email firstname.lastname@example.org in the meantime as an alternative communication channel
