SERVICE OVERVIEW

Name of Service
Urology Community Services (CATS)

Commissioned by
NHS Hertfordshire / STAHCOM (St Albans & Harpenden Commissioning PBC Group)

Service provided by
The Elms Medical Practice, Harpenden

This service provides a routine Urology service in the community for St Albans and Harpenden. Patients will be triaged and then seen as appropriate by the Urology Community Services team. If a subsequent secondary care referral is required, this will be arranged utilising Choose and Book. We do not accept referrals for suspected cancer; these referrals should be directed to secondary care as usual.

PROCEDURES & TREATMENTS

We have a range of facilities to provide the following:

  • Bladder ultrasound
  • Flow rates
  • Dedicated one stop clinics for renal tract and scrotal ultrasound scanning
  • Direct listing for flexible cystoscopy
Clinical areas covered include prostatism (LUTS), raised PSAs, microscopic haematuria, ED, Peyronie’s disease, recurrent UTIs, unstable bladders, scrotal cysts and lumps.

CLINICS

Patients will be seen at The Elms Medical Practice, Harpenden on Mondays to Fridays. Joint Consultant and GPSI clinics are held for new patients, follow ups and triage.

SHORT WAITING TIME FOR PATIENTS
  • Maximum 4 week wait for first appointment
  • Patients often seen in 2 to 3 weeks
  • Urgent referrals will be seen in the next scheduled clinic (usually with 5 working days)
HOW TO REFER

If using choose and book to generate a UBRN, you must also send a paper referral (post or fax) direct to Urology Community Services (CATS). Do not send any correspondence to the choice team based at Herts Urgent Care.

Referrals by letter are accepted from GPs. No suspected cancer (2 week wait) referrals.
